| Termite Detection Radar Case Study: Commercial |
|
In this case study, Termatrac representatives were called to a 22-year old office and warehouse on the outskirts of the Brisbane CBD.
Requiring a demonstration of Termatrac Termite Detection Radar technology, the operator in charge of the commercial job had been having significant problems with termites. Over the past six months the structure had become the target of a recurring infestation, much to the distress of the pest manager. Not only was he getting rather frustrated, but the client's patience was wearing thin and had started threatening to hire someone else despite a long history of repeat business.
When the termite activity was detected in the steel frame on concrete slab building, action was immediately taken in the form of a physical barrier around the slab, dusting of areas with significant activity, and baiting. Unfortunately none of these had proved fully successful, as pockets of termites would make themselves known every once in a while in new locations. Termites had to be still entering the structure, possibly through a failure in the physical barrier, but without being able to see under the slab this was impossible to locate; that is until the Termatrac Termite Detection Radar was introduced.
The building was comprehensively inspected during the demonstration, focusing on areas surrounding previous known and treated termite activity. It didn't take long before an area of interest was located, the floor of a stationary closet under a cupboard holding supplies. Carpet was removed and a thin termite mud lead was found entering the wall cavity, completely hidden from view. After tracing the lead to a point of entry, it appeared that a holding down bolt had passed completely through the concrete slab and the plastic membrane underneath, allowing termites to infiltrate the building.
Noting this, the inspection of the building continued but no further activity could be found, indicating this was likely to be the only point of entry. Subsequently several holes were drilled around the holding down bolt and chemical injected.
No post-treatment inspection has determined there have been termites active at the premises, even six months after the most recent treatment had been completed. |
"The use of the Termatrac is a great tool to detect and confirm termite presence, allowing to track movement to assist with pinpointing entry points."
